Since its inception in 2008, IPL has changed how T20 cricket is played. The performances have been going up each season, and multiple individual and team awards have been introduced to acknowledge that. One such team award is the Fair Play Award. Points are allocated for respecting the rules of the games and respecting fellow players and opponents, as well as umpires. 

This award ensures matches are played fairly and honestly and the game spirit is maintained. Based on these parameters, the best team wins the IPL Fair Play Award trophy at the end of the season.

IPL Fair Play Points Calculation

• Both teams receive 10 points at the start of a match
• 4 points for playing with the right spirit of the game
• 2 points for showing respect for the opposition
• 2 points for respecting the game's laws
• 2 points for showing respect for the umpires.

Points are deducted for any misconduct or violation of these parameters. The final points are added to the respective teams points tally at the end of the match. The team with the most points at the end of the season wins the Fair Play Award.

IPL Fair Play Award Winners List From 2008 to 2024

CSK, led by the talismanic MS Dhoni, are the most successful team in the "Fair Play Award" category. Chennai have won a record 6 IPL Fair Play Awards (2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015) in their 14 seasons in the league.

Rajasthan (2012, 2021, and 2022) and Hyderabad (2016, 2019 and 2024) have won the award three times. Mumbai (2018 & 2020) have won it twice. Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat and the now-defunct Gujarat Lions won it in the 2023, 2009, 2022 and 2017 editions, respectively.
