Chris Gayle, the "Universe Boss", scored the 2nd highest individual score in World Cup history. Like Guptill’s knock, this one also came in the 2015 edition. Batting first, Gayle smashed 215 off just 147 balls at the Manuka Oval in Canberra against Zimbabwe. His innings included 10 fours and 16 sixes. West Indies won the match by 73 runs.

Glenn Maxwell, the "Big Show", scored the 3rd highest individual score in World Cup history.  This is the highest individual score batting second in ODIs. Chasing 292, Maxwell smashed 201 off just 128 balls at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against Afghanistan. His innings included 21 fours and 10 sixes. Australia won the match by 3 wickets. 

4) Gary Kirsten: 188* (vs UAE, Rawalpindi 1996)

Former South African opener Gary Kirsten registered the third-highest individual score in World Cups. Kirsten scored against the United Arab Emirates in Rawalpindi during the 1996 World Cup. He held the record for 19 years until it was broken by Gayle in 2015 and then by Guptill in the same tournament.

5) Sourav Ganguly: 183 (vs Sri Lanka, Taunton 1999)

Former Indian captain and opener Sourav Ganguly is at the 4th spot on the list of highest individual scores in World Cups. His magical knock of 183 against the Sri Lankan attack in Taunton came during the 1999 World Cup. Ganguly was involved with Dravid (145) in a massive 318-run 2nd wicket partnership which took the team to 373. India won the match by 157 runs.
