India Squad for Asia Cup 2023

BCCI announced the India cricket team squad for the 2023 Asia Cup hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The 2023 Asia Cup is played in the ODI format as preparation for the upcoming 2023 Cricket World Cup.

India are in Group A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan and Nepal, while Group B contains Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The upcoming edition of the Asia Cup will be played from 30 Aug to 17 Sep 2023.

Rohit Sharma will captain the 17-man squad, with Hardik Pandya as vice-captain. KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna return to the team after recovering from their injuries. Tilak Varma recently made his T20I debut against West Indies and is the only new player in the Asia Cup squad.

Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj return after being rested for the white-ball tour of the West Indies. All-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur complete the pace attack. Kuldeep Yadav is the only specialist spinner in the squad, while his spin partner Yuzvendra Chahal is dropped. All-rounders Axar and Jadeja will share the spin duties with Kuldeep.

Ishan Kishan is the second wicketkeeper in the squad and doubles up as a reserve opener. Sanju Samson will travel to Sri Lanka as a reserve player.
