6 January 2024 Afghanistan Cricket Board announced the 19-man squad for the 3-match T20I series against India. Ibrahim Zadran will captain Afghanistan, as the regular skipper Rashid Khan continues to recover from a back surgery. Afghanistan recently won the T20I series against the UAE by 2-1.

Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq played in the UAE series while Mujeeb Ur Rahman will be in national colours for the first time since July 2023. Ikram Alikhil is the backup wicketkeeper to Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
