Pakistan Squad for Asia Cup 2023

26 Aug 2023 Saud Shakeel is added to Pakistan's squad for the 2023 Asia Cup. Tayyab Tahir will be part of the traveling reserves after being named initially in the 17-member team.

PCB announced the Pakistan cricket team squad for the 2023 Asia Cup hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The upcoming edition of the Asia Cup will be in the ODI format from 30 Aug to 17 Sep 2023. 

Pakistan, India, and Nepal are in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are in Group B. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 4s. The top 2 teams from the Super 4s will play in the final.

  • Batters: Babar Azam (Captain), Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed
  • Wicketkeepers: Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Haris
  • All-rounders: Shadab Khan (VC), Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Salman Ali Agha
  • Bowlers: Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Wasim, Usama Mir
  • Reserve Player: Tayyab Tahir

Babar Azam will captain the 17-man squad with Shadab Khan as vice-captain. All-rounder Faheem Ashraf make a return to the squad. Shan Masood, Haris Sohail, and Ihsanullah are dropped from the team. Usama Mir is the only specialist spinner in the squad. Shadad and Nawaz will share the spin duties with him. 

Shaheen, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, and Mohammad Wasim are the pacers in the team. The same squad will play the 3-match ODI series against Afghanistan from 22 to 26 Aug 2023 in Sri Lanka as preparation for the Asia Cup.
