This was the 3rd T20 World Cup won while defending a score, first after 2012.

In the final against Pakistan, they chased the target of 138 with five wickets remaining. England became the first team to hold both the ODI and T20 World Cup titles simultaneously.

Riding the wave of the 2012 win, West Indies repeated the success in the 2016 edition held in India. They became the first team in T20 World Cup history to win the tournament twice, beating England by 4 wickets in the final. Carlos Braithwaite scored 24 runs off the final over by Ben Stokes to hand West Indies the victory. Marlon Samuels was the Player of the Match.

Sri Lanka won their first-ever T20 World Cup in 2014, hosted by Bangladesh. After losing two ODI World Cup finals in 2007 and 2011, they defeated pre-tournament favorites India in the final by six wickets. The islanders lost just one match in the entire tournament, against England, during the group stage.

The 2012 T20 World Cup was played in Sri Lanka for the first time. West Indies became the 4th winner of the T20 World Cup trophy. Chris Gayle, the "Universe Boss," provided explosive starts at the top of the order, while Sunil Narine's mystery spin got opposition batters out. They beat Sri Lanka, who were playing their second T20 World Cup final, by 36 runs.
