Records, in a way, define sports and the players. Records are being created and broken in sports all the time. If you talk about cricket, nearly all fans know the record holders of popular records such as the most matches played, the most number of runs scored, and the most number of wickets taken. However, multiple other records are very unique and special in their own way.

Here’s a list of 10 such records that seem nearly impossible to break.

1. Sachin Tendulkar has scored 100 international centuries, a staggering achievement. To add to that, he also holds the record for having the most number of 90s in international cricket. He has made 10 nineties in Tests and 18 in ODIs. That’s a total of 28 nineties to go with the 100 centuries.

2. Sri Lankan legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan holds the incredible record of taking 10 or more wickets in 4 consecutive Test matches. He has done it not once, but twice in his career, in 2001 and 2006. Can anyone match or break this record? Only time will tell.

3. Australian legend Sir Don Bradman holds the record for scoring 6 consecutive Test match centuries. All of the centuries came against England, out of which three were scored in Australia in 1937 and the other three in England in 1938.

4. India’s spinner Bapu Nadkarni holds the record of bowling 21 consecutive maiden overs. This outstanding feat came during the 1963 Madras Test against England. He finished with figures of 32-27-5-0 in the innings.

5. Making it to a World Cup final is an achievement in itself, but to score 3 consecutive 50+ scores as a batter in that match is another record. Australia wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist achieved this feat by scoring 2 fifties and 1 century in three finals: 54 runs in 1999, 57 runs in 2003, and 149 runs in 2007. This is going to be a hard feat to match or break.

6. England’s Trevor Bailey holds the record of hitting the slowest half century in Test cricket. In the 1958-59 Ashes Tour in Australia, he took 350 balls to reach his half century in the 1st Test at Brisbane.

7. While Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most centuries (100) in international cricket, the most centuries in first-class cricket belongs to Jack Hobbs, who scored an incredible 199 centuries in total.

8. Jim Laker of England holds the record for taking the most wickets in a single match. He took a total of 19 wickets in two innings against Australia in Manchester during the year 1956, a record that still hasn’t been broken by anyone. Another Englishman, Sydney Barnes, is the next best with 17 wickets in a Test match against South Africa.

9. India’s Rohit Sharma holds an incredible record of scoring 3 double-centuries in ODIs. It will take something special from someone to match or repeat this feat. Four other batters have scored an ODI double-century, but just once.

10. Australia’s former skipper Ricky Ponting is the only player to have scored a century in both innings of his 100th Test match. This feat came against South Africa in Sydney in 2006. He scored 120 in the first innings and then an unbeaten 143 in the second innings, helping his team chase down a target of 287 runs on the final day of the Test match.
