T20 World Cup 2022 Schedule

Cricket fans, get ready to play fantasy cricket on Howzat as the T20 World Cup 2022 kicks off in Australia from 16th October 2022. This will be the 8th edition of the T20 World Cup tournament. 

Australia, the host country, are the defending champions by virtue of defeating neighboring rivals New Zealand in the final of the 2021 T20 World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to begin on 16th October, 2022, with the final to be played on 13th November, 2022.

T20 World Cup 2022 Teams

A total of 16 teams will participate in the T20 World Cup 2022. The 12 teams that reached the Super 12 stage of the 2021 T20 World Cup automatically qualified for the 2022 tournament. 8 of these 12 directly qualified for the Super 12 stages.

Australia, IndiaPakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, New Zealand and South Africa qualified directly for the Super 12 stage of the tournament. 

The remaining 4 teams, Namibia, Scotland, Sri Lanka and West Indies are placed in the First Round of the competition. Four more teams - UAE, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Netherlands join them in the First Round from the Global Qualifiers.

T20 World Cup 2022 Schedule

The first round consists of 8 teams. The teams are divided into two groups based on the 2021 T20 World Cup Results and the T20I Team Rankings of 15 November 2021.

Namibia, Scotland, Sri Lanka and West Indies are ranked 9th to 12th in the T20I team rankings as of 15 November 2021 and placed in the First Round. The remaining four places came from each of the two Global Qualifiers. UAE and Ireland are the top two teams from Global Qualifier A while Zimbabwe and Netherlands are the top two teams from Global Qualifier B.

T20 World Cup 2022 First Round Schedule

The tournament will begin with a Group A match between Sri Lanka and Namibia in Geelong at 9.30 AM India time on 16th October 2022 followed by UAE vs Netherlands match at 1.30 PM Indian time.

Group B, which includes West Indies, Scotland, Zimbabwe and Ireland will be in action in Hobart on 17th October 2022, with the matches running until 21st October. The top two teams in each group will proceed to the Super 12 stage of the tournament, beginning on 22nd October.

T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12
Based on the T20I team rankings as of 15 November 2021, the second round of the tournament, which is the Super 12 stage, consists of 12 teams. This includes the top 8 teams in the T20I team Rankings of November 2021 and the 4 qualifiers from the first round.

Australia, Afghanistan, England, and New Zealand are together in Group 1, while India, South Africa, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are in Group 2.

T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 Match Schedule

The second round will start in Sydney on 22nd October, with a Group 1 blockbuster match between Australia and New Zealand. Group 2 matches will begin with arch rivals India and Pakistan clashing in Melbourne on 23rd October evening. 

Old rivals England and Australia will meet in Melbourne on 28th October. The Group 1 matches will conclude on 5th November, with the match between England and South Africa at Sydney. The Group B matches will conclude with a triple-header on 6th November. India take on the first-placed first round qualifier from Group B in the last match.

Semifinals

The first semifinal will be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 9th November, while the second semifinal will be hosted by Adelaide Oval on 10th November. Both semi finals have reserve days.

T20 World Cup 2022 Venues
The first round matches of the 2022 T20 World Cup will be played in Hobart and Geelong, with other 5 venues - Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane hosting matches from the Super 12 stage onward.

The two semi-finals are scheduled to be played at the Adelaide Oval and Sydney Cricket Ground, with the final scheduled at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 13th November 2022.
