UEFA Champions League 2024-25

18 September 2024 Real Madrid beat VfB Stuttgart by 3-1 on matchday 1 of the UEFA Champions League 2024-25. Mbappe, Rudiger and Endrick were the three goal scorers. Liverpool beat AC Milan by 3-1 and Bayern Munich beat Dinamo Zagreb by 9-2. Harry Kane scored 4 goals.

 

The 2024–25 UEFA Champions League is the 70th season of the European top club football competition. It is the 33rd since it was rebranded from the European Cup (1955-92) to the UEFA Champions League. It will be the first season with a new format. 

 

36 teams will play eight matches against eight opponents, and the top 24 teams qualify for the knockout stages. The league stage will begin on 17 September 2024 and end on 29 January 2025. The knockout stage starts on 11 February, and the final is scheduled for 31 May 2025 at the Allianz Arena, Munich.

2024-25 UEFA Champions League Format

36 teams (increased from 32 from the previous season) will participate in the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League. Until last season, teams were drawn into 8 equal groups and played 6 matches (three home and three away) against the three group opponents.
 

From this season, every team will play 8 matches (four home and four away) against eight different opponents. All teams will be ranked in a single table. The top 8 teams will receive a bye to the Round of 16. The teams ranked 9th to 16th will play the knockout phase play-off matches against the teams ranked 17th to 24th.
