Arshdeep Singh â Indiaâs Left-Arm Pace Ace
When Arshdeep Singh was picked in the India Under-19 squad for the World Cup in 2018, he was seen very much as a back-up player. More than 4 years on, Arshdeep made an immediate impression playing for the senior team. He has also enjoyed a lot of success in the Indian T20 League. Kagiso Rabada, who spent three seasons with him at the Punjab team, went so far as to call him the best death-overs bowler in the tournament in 2021.
Arshdeep didnât take as many wickets in the 2022 season, but brought his economy rate down from 8.27 in 2021 to just 7.70 in 2022. His ability to land his yorkers and to get the batters cramped for room made him a tough proposition to work out. He finally got his chance against England in July 2022, and he made best use of it, with superb figures of 2-18. Arshdeep was the highest wicket-taker for India in the 2022 T20 World Cup (10 wickets in 6 matches).

Arshdeep Singh - Key Skills and Strengths
In a relatively short career, Arshdeep has shown that heâs equally comfortable with the new ball and the slightly roughed-up older one. The main reason he has been fast-tracked into the Indian team is his ability to control the flow of runs at the end of an innings. Over the last two seasons of the Indian T20 League, only Jasprit Bumrah had a better economy rate in the death overs. Arshdeep has the left-armerâs natural advantage of slanting the ball away from the right-hand batters, and heâs adept at slipping in the yorker and the well-directed bouncers too.
Arshdeep Singh Awards and Achievements
Arshdeep made a sensational start to his international career with the Indian cricket team, and was Indiaâs go-to- bowler in the 2022 Asia Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. He didnât let the team feel the absence of Jasprit Bumrahâs death bowling. One aspect that Arshdeep can improve upon is the indiscipline with regard to bowling no-balls frequently, which has let the team down on multiple occasions.
Here are some of his achievements in international cricket:
-
Arshdeep is the 1st Indian bowler since Ajit Agarkar in 2006 to bowl a maiden over to start his T20I career.
-
He was adjudged the Man of the Series after picking up 7 wickets in five matches against the West Indies in July-August 2022.
Arshdeep Singhâs Indian T20 League Journey
Though he was no more than a back-up player in the victorious Indian squad at the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, Arshdeepâs displays were enough to catch the eye of the Punjab team in the Indian T20 League . As an uncapped player, he cost them a mere â¹20 lakhs before the 2019 season. He was at his best in the following season, taking 18 wickets from 12 matches. Before the 2022 season, he was retained at a cost of â¹4 crores, even as Punjab let go of the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Shami. Arshdeep didnât scoop as many wickets in 2022, but he became even harder to hit in the final stages of an innings.
