Liam Livingstone - The Ball Killer
Liam Livingstone is a relatively unknown phenomenon at the international scene, despite having made international debut in 2017. That is because of the limited number of matches he has been involved in for England since then owing to the presence of a number of quality players. However, those limited number of appearances arenât reflective of the quality Livingstone brings to the table. The 28-year-old is a power hitter who is more suited to the shortest format of the game. He can hit the ball hard and is often called on by the England team when they feel the need for the ball to reach the top tier. Livingstoneâs 43-ball 103 against Pakistan earlier this year is the fastest century scored by an Englishman in T20Is. His aggressive batting also earned him a spot on the England team for the 2021 T20 World Cup.
The explosive nature of his game did not go unnoticed as the Rajasthan team bought him for the 2019 edition of the Indian T20 League. The limitations regarding the overall number of foreign players allowed to play in a match meant that Livingstoneâs chances were limited and he ended the season with just four appearances and 71 runs. The team released him the following year but bought him yet again for the 2021 season. The 21-year-old batter grabbed the headlines this February when he became the subject of fierce bidding war between a number of teams. Starting at a base price of â¹1 crore, Livingstone went on to be sold at a price of â¹11.50 crore to the Punjab team .
Adding to Livingstoneâs repertoire is his abilities with the ball. He has 3 wickets to his name at the international level and is known to be an economical bowler.
He has been to countries like South Africa, Australia and Pakistan in order to play domestic cricket there, showing fans glimpses of his explosive batting. He was chosen as a part of Englandâs Test squad for the New Zealand tour in 2018 but is yet to make his Test debut.

Liam Livingstone â Key Skills and Strengths
Having flourished from county cricket, Livingstoneâs biggest strength is his aggressive batting. He is regarded as one of Englandâs most destructive batters and is therefore preferred down the batting order where he has the independence to score freely in order to add more runs to the scoreboard and pile pressure on the bowlers. He has an unorthodox style of batting, making it hard for the bowlers to bowl a certain line and length to stop the onslaught. Besides the destructive nature of his game, Livingstone has a mature head over his shoulders and understands the need of the game well. He can read the situation and can play accordingly.
Livingstone can also be used as an economical bowler. He has an exceptional economy rate for a T20 bowler and is often used to apply the breaks on scoring. While his bowling skills havenât been so useful in the Indian T20 League, he still has the potential to be an asset for any side he represents. Having played a lot of white-ball cricket at the domestic level, Livingstone brings that experience to the team.
