England may have started the T20 World Cup with a bang, thrashing the West Indies, the defending champions, in a rematch of the 2016 final. But though the current 50-over World Cup champions, who are also ranked No.1 in T20Is, will start as big favorites, there is no question of them taking Bangladesh lightly. Several Bangladeshi stars were part of the sides that humbled England at the 2011 and 2015 World Cups, though Eoin Morgan did get a measure of revenge with a brutal 148 in the 2019 World Cup.

England’s white-ball progress has been spectacular under Morgan’s leadership. He is the only individual from their T20 World Cup win in 2010 who was also part of the 2019 World Cup success. For Bangladesh, whose quarter-final appearance at the 2015 World Cup remains a highlight, this is another opportunity to prove that they can mix it with the big boys.

This England-Bangladesh cricket match – the first time the two teams will meet in this format – has much riding on it.
