Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and West Indies’ Stafanie Taylor have been voted the winners of the ICC Player of the Month for July 2021.
Shakib was nominated along with West Indies' Hayden Walsh Jr and Australia's Mitchell Marsh, who put up some brilliant performances in July.
The Bangladesh all-rounder performed brilliantly in the series win against Zimbabwe, scoring 145 runs and taking 8 wickets in three ODIs, and then 3 wickets in the following three T20s at an economy rate of just 7. He also took 5 wickets in the only Test played between the two sides.
Speaking to the ICC, Shakib said, “A lot of players did well during the month but I got picked and it's very special for me. It is a matter of great pride to be named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for July 2021.”
In Women’s cricket, Stafanie Taylor was given the award for performing exceptionally well for the West Indies in the limited-overs series against Pakistan. She was nominated for the award along with her teammate Hayley Mathews and Pakistan’s Fatima Sana, but her all-round performance on the tour helped her claim the most votes.
Taylor scored 175 runs in four ODIs, including 1 century, and took 3 wickets at an economy rate of 3.72. She also took 4 wickets for 13 runs in the T20s, with all the wickets coming in a single match.
